Assessment Strategies
This lesson provides several opportunities for informal and formal assessment. Informal opportunities include: Class participation–volunteering of information, identifying memorial images (person or group), listing types of memorials, feedback section at end of lesson Reading Comprehension/Reading Out Loud–Discussion of The Story of Michael Strank and the United States Marines at Iwo Jima Formal Assessment opportunities: The Student Worksheet 1-Making a Memorial has an associated Teacher's Guide to be used with open interpretation of student work.
