Assign students to read the Durham Furnace Behind the Marker story. Discuss the divisions of loyalties between colonists. Watch the movie The Crossing. Have students identify historical inaccuracies in the movie based upon what they learned. Ask students to research other paintings that contain historical inaccuracies. Adapt the "History Painting Analysis" worksheet for use with the paintings.
