The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts
The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts boasts one of the most extensive collections of American Art in the world (including Benjamin West's painting of William Penn's Treaty with the Indians used in this lesson!). Their vast collection can be used as a window to explore any discipline. This lesson focused on historical interpretation. The Philadelphia Museum of Art
The Philadelphia Museum of Art has wonderfully developed educational opportunities. The educational programming explicitly ties into Pennsylvania state standards of a variety of subjects (for example see this website for middle school level standards). Generally relating to this lesson, they offer a 1 ½ hour program on Pennsylvania Artists, introducing other artists such as Charles Willson Peale, Thomas Eakins, Horace Pippin, and Alexander Calder. The State Museum of Pennsylvania
The Fine Art collection at the State Museum is enriched by the gift of the private collection of Meyer P. and Vivian O. Potamkin called "The William Penn Treaty." This collection explores numerous depictions of this peaceful negotiation process and includes an Edward Hicks" oil painting, "Penn's Treaty" from circa 1830. The museum offers an informative online exhibit noted in the reference section of this lesson as well.

American Folk Art Museum
Although Jack Savitsky passed away in 1991, some of his work now resides at this museum along with other American folk art. The museum offers a variety of educational experiences, with programs not only during the day, but also in the evening and on weekends.
