1. Have students analyze the site and situation of their own town or city. 2. Have students look for clues in their town or city that would indicate that at one time the "situation" was different. 3. Have students look for clues that the railroads were once in the area. 4. Have students compare the routes of railroads with the routes used by major highways and theorize reasons for similarities and differences.
