In 1940, Jimmy Stewart starred in The Philadelphia Story, a romantic screwball comedy with Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn. Stewart and Grant got their roles only after Clark Gable and Spencer Tracy had turned them down, but the casting couldn't have been better. The film won two Oscars, including one for Stewart as Best Actor, and has since been ranked by the American Film Institute as the fifteenth best American comedy of all time, and fifty-first best American movie.
