On the eve of World War II, Pennsburg, PA's Frank Buchman was the nation's most popular evangelist. Promoting "Moral Re-Armament" -the belief that a spiritual re-armament of men's hearts, minds, and wills through God's will was the only way to prevent war–Buchman won influential supporters in the U.S., including Senator Harry Truman and actress Mae West.
