This 1889 map of Johnstown and Cambria shows the convergence of rail and water shipping routes that made this such an ideal location for iron and steel manufacturing. It also shows the devastating route of the famous "Johnstown Flood" which swept down the Conemaugh Valley in 1889 and killed more than 2,000.
