A sophisticated network of overland paths permitted frontier travel across Pennsylvania during the French and Indian War. From the Great Swamp in the east to the Ohio Country in the west, Indian and European settlers alike traversed mountaintops and steep valleys along well-worn paths that linked the remote parts of William Penn’s woodlands.
