Seriously wounded at Christiana, Dickinson Gorsuch (1826-1882) returned to Maryland after a long convalescence in Pennsylvania and took over management of the family farm. The family's remaining slaves, one of whom enlisted in the 19th Regiment of the U.S. Colored Volunteers, fled during the Civil War.
