Long known as a center of Italian American culture and cuisine, the 9th Street Curb Market drew shoppers from across Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs. In an era before the arrival of the modern supermarket, curbside competition was fierce and bargaining vigorous as vendors vied for patrons.
