Premiering in 2003, Voices of Quecreek is the first national interactive experience depicting the hardship and triumph of the 78 hour Quecreek Mine Rescue. The effort by 700 people and 100 companies working around the clock for a little more than three days under emergency conditions to rescue nine coal miners trapped 240 feet underground is nothing short of miraculous. The Windber Coal Heritage Center, the permanent home of the Voices of Quecreek Exhibit, is the only interactive museum in the eastern U.S. dedicated to telling the story of the everyday lives of miners and their families. Open May through October, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission.
