POTTSVILLE GREETS CHAMPION ELEVEN
Whole Town Turns Out to Honor Professional Stars.
WANT GAME WITH GRANGE.

Pottsville, Pa., Dec. 7 – Pottsville's National League club, which yesterday won the national championship at Chicago, was greeted with a tumultuous reception on arrival home here today. A crowd of over 10,000 took possession of the players and held them prisoner while the fans paraded over a number of streets.

Although the Mayor of the city headed the parade, there was no need of police protection from vehicles, for the vast crowd so jammed the streets that traffic was impossible for a while. Bands played, drum corps made noise, bells rang and the uproar amid fireworks was deafening. Dr. Stiegel, manager of the club, was presented with a picture of himself sitting on the top of the world.

Jack Quinn, of the Athletics, who saw the game in Chicago, made the trip home with the club, as this is his native city, and was the object of as much honor as any on the team. Quinn's name was cheered along with Walter French and Charlie Berry, and Jack was greatly pleased when hailed as the man who will bring the world's pennant to the Athletics next year.

The firemen of the city greatly aided in the spectacular feature of the homecoming by parading with the crowd with their clanging machinery. It was stated by the management that fans all over the country are anxious to witness a game which will put to the test the relative merits of French and "Red" Grange.

To this end a game at Philadelphia between Pottsville and Chicago Bears has been suggested. Not all the team were here tonight, some of the members having gone to their homes, but all will report here promptly to arrange for the contest with Notre Dame at Philadelphia next Saturday.
