Doris Day and Les Brown. In 1944, the Les Brown Orchestra recorded "Sentimental Journey" with young singer Doris Day. Capturing the hearts of GIs longing to return home and of their loved ones back home, the song remained at the top of Your Hit Parade for 16 weeks and became the band's biggest hit. Day would record several other popular songs with Brown before leaving in the late 1940s to pursue a successful career in motion pictures and on television.
