Led by pro-business Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes, the United States Supreme Court during the 1930s ruled against critical pieces of New Deal legislation. Hughes did, however, rule in favor of the National Labor Relations Board against the Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation, and wrote the majority opinion.
