Today, Loretto is a small mountain town of just over 1,000 residents. St Francis University, which traces its roots to the arrival of six Franciscan friars in 1846, adds another 1,600 to the local population. The Basilica of Saint Michael the Archangel, pictured here, stands next to the Prince Gallitzin Chapel House.
