The most powerful steel CEO of the early 1900s, Charles M. Schwab (1862-1939) became president of the Carnegie Steel Corporation in 1897, served as first president of U.S. Steel until 1903, and then turned Bethlehem Steel Company into the nation's largest independent steel producer.
