The Great Shamokin Path connected Indian villages in the supper Susquehanna River Valley with settlements west in the Ohio Country. Delaware and Shawnee Indians used the path for raids on the Pennsylvania frontier during the French and Indian War. Villages at Shamokin (Sunbury today) in the east and Kittanny to the west marked the end points of this much used artery that brought warring factions, missionaries, and diverse settlers into the interior of Pennsylvania.
