A State Museum of Pennsylvania excavation team conducted archaeological investigations at the Conestoga Indian Town site in 1972. In this photograph crew members investigate refuse-filled pits. Analyses of the artifacts found in these pits lead archaeologists to conclude that this small part of the 16,000 acre Conestoga Indian Town tract was occupied between the years 1690-1740 AD.
