Alexander K. McClure

Prominent Chambersburg lawyer Alexander K. McClure was also the publisher and editor of the Franklin Repository newspaper. An abolitionist before the war, McClure helped raise volunteer units from Franklin County in 1862. In the days before Gettysburg, Confederate General Albert Jenkins stayed as a guest in McClure's house. After the Battle of Gettysburg, McClure criticized Jenkins" conduct during the Chambersburg occupation in his newspaper. The following summer, Confederate raiders burned McClure's "Norland" estate, on on July 30, 1864.
