On June 28, 1863 the oasis of tranquility surrounding Peace Church was violently interrupted by the thunderous roar of Rebel cannons firing just outside its doors. Built in 1798 by a Reformed congregation just west of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, Peace Church served as a Confederate artillery position on June 28-29, as Albert Jenkins' cavalry probed the Harrisburg defenses.
