In 1942, MGM released Tarzan's New York Adventure, its sixth and final Tarzan film featuring Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O'Sullivan. In it, Tarzan, Jane, and the chimp Cheeta travel to New York to save Boy, who has been kidnapped to perform in a circus. After failing to get Boy back by legal means, Tarzan rescues him with the help of circus elephants. After leaving MGM, Weissmuller would star in another six Tarzan movies for RKO.
