This stone marker sits atop the very rock upon which Pennsylvania colonel Strong Vincent rallied his men from on July 2, 1863. As the Confederates pushed up the southern slope of Little Round Top, Strong shouted, "Don't give an inch!" before he was shot down. The Union troops held firm that day but sustained heavy casualties. One Union corps commander and three brigadier generals died at Gettysburg; Vincent was promoted to brigadier general on his deathbed.
