Lancaster N Queen Street

Created soon after the arrival of the Philadelphia & Columbia Railroad in 1830, this picture of Lancaster shows the Globe Hotel with its advertisement for the Pioneer Line. A forwarding company, the Pioneer Line took passengers to Pittsburgh by rail, canal packet, and stage before completion of the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1854.
