The giant elm tree where Native Americans may have met with William Penn became iconic to the founding of Pennsylvania. Known as the "Treaty Elm," it is depicted here in a watercolor by George Lehman.

Located along the Delaware River in present-day Philadelphia, the giant elm tree giant elm tree where William Penn supposedly conducted his first treaty with Indians became an icon of the peaceful founding of Pennsylvania. Known as the "Treaty Elm," it survived until blown down during a storm in 1810.
