First Pennsylvania Railroad Train to use Westinghouse airbrake

This photo shows the first PRR train ever equipped with a successful airbrake system. Adopted for passenger service in the 1880s, airbrakes became universal on all railroad equipment after Congress passed the Safety Appliance Act in 1893.
