Major General John  Sullivan
Distinguished officer of the Continental Army   mesotint,  [London] : Publish'd as the Act directs by Thos. Hart, 1776 Augt. 22.

The successful retreat of the sick and defeated American troops back from their failed invasion of Canada in 1776 made Major General John Sullivan famous in Britain as well as the United States. That same year a London publisher printed a series of mezzotints of American generals, including this one of Sullivan.
