Slum Clearance on Ruch's Hill, Pittsburgh, by Virginia Cuthbert, 1937. Born in 1908, in West Newton, Pa., the small towns of southwestern Pennsylvania were considered home for Virginia Cuthbert and provided the subjects for many of her paintings.
