Every Thursday, lQuakers in Chester County attended a mid-week meeting.  On the morning of Thursday, September 11, 1777, Quakers in the Kennett Square Meeting House locked the doors and closed the windows as musket and cannon balls fired pass the building during the early hours of the Battle of Brandywine. Later, one Quaker recalled the day as follows: "While there was much noise and confusion outside, all was quiet and peaceful within."
