Hunted out of existence in the state by the mid-1880s, the Pennsylvania Game Commission began restoration efforts in 1917. Today, beavers range across the entire state with the exception of small areas in the southeast. Each year Pennsylvania trappers  take between 6,000 and 10,000 beavers.
