One of the most famous radicals of her era, Emma Goldman helped plot the attempted assassination of Henry Frick unsuccessfully carried out by her lover, Alexander Berkman in 1892. In 1893, the same year this photo was taken after her arrest in Philadelphia, Nellie Bly conducted the first interview with a then 25-year-old Emma Goldman to appear in the American press.
