Philo T. Farnsworth was already a celebrity when this 1929 photograph documented the 23-year-old-Mormon inventor working on the transmitting section of a revolutionary new television "dissector tube" that he believed would replaced the scanning disks of previous television systems. In 1931 the Philadelphia Electric Battery Company would lure Farnsworth from California to Philadelphia, where he would continue his groundbreaking work in the development of television.
