In January 1836, Pittsburgh Typographical Union No.7 adopted this set of price lists to combat the undercutting of prices by "RATS" who were driving down prices. Ruling in favor of lawsuits brought by employers, Pennsylvania courts quickly determined such price fixing agreements to be illegal.
