In 1875, Philadelphia clothing store owner John Wanamaker purchased the old Philadelphia Railroad freight depot, then sponsored the largest religious revival in Philadelphia history. Between November 21, 1875 and February 4, 1876, more than a million people attended revivals led by evangelist Dwight Moody and gospel songwriter Ira Sankey, a native of Edinburg, PA. The average daily attendance in Moody and Sankey's makeshift tabernacle was more than 22,000 people!
