Designed to teach Georgist economics, Elizabeth Magie Phillips' Landlord's Game included a "go to jail" square, railroads in the middle space of each side, a "free parking" corner, and a "Mother Earth" space that would later be named "Go." Phillips' game was identical in layout and rules to today's Monopoly, with one significant difference: players could vote to switch, and play the game by single tax rules! Landlord's Game was a better teaching tool than a game – for under the single tax rules, no one ever lost.
