Named Pennsylvania's first state normal school in 1859, the Millersville's Lancaster County Normal School was a testament to educational reform efforts. Combining classical subject matter with teacher training, Millersville and similar schools prepared generations of public school teachers. The school's original building, Old Main, as it was known, was added to four times over 25 years to accommodate the growing student body.
