When the Altoona Leap the Dips opened in 1902 it employed the latest roller coaster technology of its day. Leap the Dips had a 1,452-foot-long double figure eight-like track formation, a lift hill topping out at 41 feet above ground level, and cars that achieved 12 miles per hour during the course.
