The model shown here is the Perfected Sholes and Glidden, that was the last in the series of six basic models.

This "Perfected Sholes and Glidden," typing machine, also offered for sale as the Remington 1, was the last in the series of six basic models. Since Remington used a design engineer from their sewing machine division, the early Sholes-Glidden typewriters would soon be recognizable by their heavy decoration and ornate gold paint.
