The Philadelphia Phillies began their thirty-two year residence at Veterans Stadium on April 10, 1971. Constructed at the cost of $45 million, "the Vet" had an AstroTurf field that became infamous for its gaps, uneven patches, and hardness. Perennially voted the worst playing surface by members of the NFL Players Association, the "Field of Seams" caused numerous injuries.
