The crowded floor of the Democratic national convention in Philadelphia.

On June 23, 1936, Pennsylvania Governor George Earle gave a rousing address to delegates at the Democratic presidential convention in which he accused the Republicans of being the party of predatory wealth. That November, FDR became the first Democratic presidential candidate to win the state of Pennsylvania since the 1850s.
