In the early 1800s Edward Hicks rendered William Penn's Quaker vision of a Holy Experiment in his Peaceable Kingdom paintings. In this version, Hicks paired his allegory of different species living together in harmony with the story of William Penn's fabled meeting of friendship with Lenape Indians in 1683.
