In the early 20th century, Pennsylvania steel was used in construction of some of the engineering marvels of the age, including the George Washington Bridge, Golden State Bridge, and the Empire State Building. Constructed in 1929, the University of Pittsburgh's Cathedral of Learning stands 42 stories and 535 feet tall.
