For generations, the Carrie Blast Furnaces provided the great Homestead mills across the Monongahela River with the iron that Homestead used to make steel. In the 1990s the Homestead mills were torn down to make room for a shopping center and apartments. The fate of what remains of the abandoned Carrie furnaces is still undetermined.
