Launched into the Delaware River from the Philadelphia Navy Yard on December 7, 1942, one year to the day, from the surprise Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, the U. S. S. New Jersey served in the Pacific from January 1944 until the close of WWII. Decommissioned for the last time in 1991, the New Jersey is the nation's most decorated battleship, with nineteen Battle and Campaign Stars, and is now a museum docked in the Delaware River off Camden, New Jersey.
