During the 1892 Homestead strike, Carnegie managers put tremendous pressure on skilled workers, and used bribes and threats to intimidate and coerce members of the advisory committee to go back to work. It was common talk that David Lynch, seated second from the left, had been bought off by Frick, who paid for his daughters' college tuitions. The Advisory Board members of the Homestead Steel Strike included, standing left to right, John Durkin, Robert Morrow, George Hatfield, Tom Williamson, Richard Hartwell, Edward Richards, and John Reese. Sitting are William McConegly, David Lynch, Tom Crawford, William Gaches and Harry Bayne.
