This painting represents the bargaining that went on in places like Frankstown. Indians valued flintlock muskets for warfare and hunting, but by purchasing them, they also became dependent on traders to supply them with powder and shot. In exchange for these goods, they provided the traders with animal pelts, like the one that is being stretched and dried in the background of this scene.
