In 1940, W. C. Fields played con-man Cuthbert J. Twillie in the comedy western My Little Chickadee with Mae West, who also wrote most of the screenplay. (Fields contributed the dialogue in the extended barroom scene.) Audiences loved the film, and the double entendres swapped by the two stars. When, for example, Twillie first meets Flower Belle and asks "I wonder what kind of woman you are?" she replies "Sorry, I don't give out samples."
