First produced in 1934, the GG1 went on to become the nation's most successful electric locomotive, and operated in top assignments longer than any other type of engine in American history. Clean, efficient, more reliable, and significantly less expensive to operate than steam engines, the GG1 and other electrical locomotives raised railroad productivity to unprecedented levels.
