The first streamliner in the East, the Reading Company's Crusader featured stainless steel coaches manufactured by the Budd Company in Philadelphia, and a locomotive specially streamlined with a new skin to match them. When the Reading placed these coaches into service in the 1930s, it beat hometown rival PRR in offering the public the latest in luxury travel.
