Founded in 1899, the Pressed Car Steel Works soon dominated McKees Rocks, an industrial town on the Ohio River five miles downriver from Pittsburgh. Pressed Steel was one of dozens of Pennsylvania industries that supplied railroads with rolling stock, fittings, replacement parks, signal equipment, and other essentials, and that employed thousands of workers, who depended upon the railroads for their livelihoods.
