Many of the Lewis and Clark expedition specimens went on deposit at Charles Willson Peale's museum in Philadelphia. There Peale mounted the specimens and made sketches for Lewis's planned volume on the expedition's scientific discoveries. This Louisiana tanager is one of several new species of animals that Lewis is credited with discovering.
